Are you at loss every time a new trendy color is
launched? Do you feel like most of us that you don´t want to be dictated to as
far as what you want to wear? Do you also feel that if you don´t buy something
each season, you will look dated? As you might have guessed, we are all in the
same boat and that boat took off more years ago than you care to think about.
I remember that 30 years ago, when I first started
studying colors, fashion and image, it seemed like a welcome change of colors
and everything tied to it each season, when the fashion houses presented their
new creations. After a while it seemed like a burden for many busy people, to
shop smart and look trendy at the same time.
This is where the knowledge of your dominant colors
comes in handy. Instead of sticking to all the same old colors you are used to
using because you once had your colors done, you can now elaborate and look
just as great!
Having your colors done, is still a good idea. The
only problem with that was, that people first got very excited about it all,
but after a little while, they forgot to carry their color swatches with them,
so they didn´t remember their best colors and were not able to buy things with
confidence.
As far as I can remember, it has always been the case
that at least twice a year, we are shown which colors we should be wearing that
season. Still today, it seems that no one in the fashion industry takes into
consideration, that people are not all the same color. We all know and can see
that the same color does not look as good on people with different coloring.
Yes, it is a challenge to have six different trendy
colors out every season according to the dominant color characteristics, but that
would solve the problem and there would be more sales made in every department.
I´m sure that the day will come, when we will also see that happening.
Until that day comes, we must do what the beautiful
people of the world do. We can either buy complete outfits of the trendy colors
without thinking about, whether they are enhancing our own look, or not. When
we dress in a color that does not bring out our own coloring, it can also
happen – and does very often – that all that people see, is the outfit and
forget, who was wearing it.
It works for some people but you really need a lot of
extra money to spend twice a year and not everyone is in a position to do so.
Therefore, if you would also like to stick to your budget, there is another
way, which is much better in the long run. By using this method, you will
always have enough variety in your wardrobe and you will look just as great as
the next person, wearing the trendy outfits with a little twist.
Start building your wardrobe with colors that enhance
your personal coloring. What I am
suggesting, is that you pick some pieces of either clothing, shoes, belts, bags
or anything that you like to wear, in the color of the trend at hand. Make sure
you stick to your dominant color characteristic palette, so that all pieces go
together. You don´t want to make your outfit look peculiar. We see too many of
those misfits without having to concentrate on it! You can do better. I
promise!
Have a close look at colors and the six categories,
which will bring you closer to what you are looking for. This way, you can also
