The seasons
We live in a very logical world. Looking at different
things and how they work, it makes me wonder how is it all possible that we are
all living on this planet like little ants, going on from day to day without giving
much thought to all the things that are clicking in our lives according to many
different systems that we take for granted. Like the fact that spring follows
winter, summer follows spring, autumn follows summer and winter follows autumn.
They always do and we all know this.
There is more to it, however. I am no mathematician
but I do find it interesting that in order to understand something more in-depth,
we can use the power of 12 to get it installed in our own head in such a way
that we can actually comprehend the bigger picture and the smaller one at the
same time.
3 x 4 = 12 is a magic combination and it works very
well for many things when trying to understand the nuts and bolts of a bigger
picture.
When I first went to color training I didn´t realize
that it all came down to this equation, until the 4 seasons were divided into 3
types of the 4 seasons. In the beginning we focused only on the four seasons,
when talking about color and perhaps it was just as well, because I had lots of
time to focus on what it all meant in practice. At the time, I didn´t
understand that it was all about cycles, just like so many other things. I was
just caught up in trying to do my job as well as I could at the time and learn
what it meant to be a representative of one season. My first job then was to
make sure each of my customers got the best possible colors for themselves to
make them look wonderful. Looking back, it was not very easy trying to cram
people into only 4 different categories. But that was all we knew back then.
At the same time I had been interested in astrology
and every time I went to London, I visited an astrology shop, where I got my
personal and yearly chart made for me. I would study this chart the whole year
every now and then and the following year, I always went back to get my next
year´s chart because I started to find things that clicked for me. It was the
cycle of the new moons and full moons that made me first notice that there really
is something to this astrology.
When learning about color and when the 4 seasons were
split up into 12 different color categories, it started to make much more sense
and easier to understand. The only thing was that it seemed to be too
complicated for people with busy lives, to take the time to focus once again on
something they had already learned and were happy with what they had. Even
though it was not complicated at all, it seemed too much. People lost interest.
If we look at the seasons in a year, we can categorize
and understand colors in exactly a similar fashion. For example, each season
has many nuances, depending on whether it is at the start of the season, in the
middle of the season or at the end of that particular season. Colors work in
the same way. Astrology works like this too.
12 is very familiar to all of us when we measure time.
There are 12 hours on the face of our clocks and we talk about half hours and
quarters of hours dividing time like we divide the seasons. Everyone is tuned
into hours of the day and we know when it gets dark at what time of the year and
when it gets light or when it is time for dusk and dawn.
If we go back to astrology, it is also divided into 12
Houses with 4 quarters of 3 Houses in each. Each of these 12 Houses is divided
into Earth, Air, Water and Fire to describe them as well as into Cardinal,
Fixed and Mutable signs. There we have it, once more: 4 x 3. To me, this is
very exciting because having studied astrology through the knowledge of many
different astrologers, who have studied astrology for decades, makes me see the
world and colors much better.
Astrology has been around longer than we like to admit
but it exists and more and more people are finding it and wanting to learn more
about the complex but precise system we have in the sky. One of my astrologer
friends said years ago: “If you can read the stars, like most people can read text,
then there is no mystery”.
There are still so many things in the world that we
really don´t know everything about and that is what life makes so interesting.
No one has it all. No one has mastered everything. There is plenty of room to
explore and find out.
In the 1980s, a new way of looking at colors and how
colors looked on different colors of people, was first introduced. Since then,
we have come a long way. It has taken lots of trial and error. The good thing
about those times is that there were so many excited people wanting to learn
and experience the magic of colors and were ready to give their time and energy
into finding out as much as possible. It is like when anything new comes up, we
want to jump at it and focus on it more intensely than when we are focusing on
something we are already familiar with. With a collective effort, more results
can be had and this is exactly what happened. Therefore, progress was made and better
solutions and “ahaa” moments experienced.
It is the same as with everything else. We must be
consistent with what we are doing if we want to have results. It won´t help
anyone to know how things should be and not let anyone else know about it. When
we share what we know, it often leads to surprising new avenues and benefits
everyone collectively in surprising ways.
The bigger issue is that people don´t care. Nor do
they take the time to look into things with a passion that would lead them to
know more and be happy with what they have learned so that they can put it to
use. It is so much easier to just let go and take the easy road, which is often
not really going anywhere.
There is power in words. There is power in numbers.
There is power in knowing. There is power in colors. It is up to each of us,
either to just sit back and be entertained or to get into the game of doing
something good for yourself and for everyone else. I have always wanted to be
part of the action and to this day, I can still recommend it to you. Life gets
so much better when we know more and are able to help others to make a
difference in their own lives as well as the lives of others.
